Christie Renaissance

In 2008, almost imperceptibly, a groundswell of interest and activity in all things Christie has begun to gather momentum. Jeff himself has appeared on, or filmed for future broadcast, several TV shows in Europe. The artist-friendly record label AngelAir (who also released the Graham Oliver solo album I guested on) has released A double CD retrospective featuring tracks from Jeff’s first band, The Outer Limits on CD for the first time, plus his unreleased solo album from 1979. The project is entitled “Outer Limits & Floored Masters – Past Imperfect“. SEE REVIEWS

As we approach the 40th. anniversary of Christie’s multi-million selling hit “Yellow River” in 2010, it looks like we’ll be heading back out on the road for a series of dates across Europe next year. We’ve had the same line-up with Jeff for 20 years, and it’s the same line-up that will be out there in 2009.

I’m looking forward to it immensely, and, as and when dates get confirmed, you’ll hear it here. But for now, take a look at Me, Jeff, Fos and Simon when we appeared back in 1990 at the Golden Years Concert in the Sportstadion, Antwerp. Good times!

  1. I must say that I am soooooo happy about these great news! These 4 guys make a fantastic band, no doubt how much they love music and enjoy to play together. It will be a big revolution (I am French, vive la revolution!) to have them on stage again in Europe. I hope young people will also find the way to this music which simply transmits a lot of live energy and joy.
And don’t think twice: this video is about 20 years old, but Kev Moore is still jumping around the same way when he performs!

Jeff, Simon, Fos and Kevin: I wish you the best luck on the road again!
And be sure: YOU will be my heroes in 2009!

  4. You must be pinching yourself bro.
    This is unbelievable news.
I do not know what is causing the phenom interest in bands like the Doors, John Lennon, Jimmy Hendrix and The Beatles, but nevertheless it is real.
Ride the wave and bring your “message” to the youth culture; they are seeking answers now and no where to find them. Once found they blog and tweet and talk; this can only lead to great things.
I am so happy for you and your mates.
    peace/

  5. Bonny/Mike – its great news indeed. I think its only now, some years down the road that I realise what a privilege it was to play these shows – and we are truly lucky to be able to get out there and do some more.

  6. Wow! This is so exciting Kev, to be performing with your old band. Amazing to stay popular for all these years and have such a comeback. It must be every musicians dream – or one of them at least.

  7. I certainly think the secret of Christie’s enduring popularity is down to the phenomenal success of the single “Yellow River.” It was such a massive seller, in so many territories, it serves as a reminder to many of a particular time in their lives. Add to that the myriad of cover versions by such a diverse range of artists, and its phenomenal airplay stats – and it’s really acting as a constant reminder of the band. Long may it continue!

  8. Hello Kevin, congratulalions. It’s a funny blog. Which album could we buy for knowing you ? We like what we listened.
Does Miki come with you in Deutsland ?

  9. Merci beaucoup, Pierre, bienvenue, et excusez-moi pour mon Francais terrible! The CDs on which I appear with Jeff Christie are very rare, but to get to know the Christie songs – you can now buy the entire first two albums plus many bonus tracks – virtually all the Christie releases – on Repertoire Records, catalogue no. RR 2304. It’s a German label I think.

  10. It must be interesting to watch yourself all those years ago on youtube and to still be able to do that very same exciting stuff now! I know I can’t do what I was doing back that far nowadays! I’s say you’ve aged extremely well – or maybe rock and roll acts as a kind of psychic preservative that keeps you young forever! Congratulations!

Comment by Bob Cornelis | November 15, 2008

  11. Bob, I feel blessed that I can do exactly that. – and you’re very kind to say I’ve aged well! I believe music acts EXACTLY like a psychic preservative – I think it feeds you creative energy which keeps you young!
