Wooly Bully

As well as being a classic 60’s song by Sam the Sham and the Pharoahs (or should that be Sam the Ram?)  it’s also my “handle” on one of the Derby County discussion forums, the name alluding to The Rams (Wooly) and living in Spain (Bully).

But it struck me that it would be a great song to do a version of for the Derby CD, so to get a lyric idea I asked a couple of the guys on the BBC 606 Derby County discussion board for some anecdotes related to DCFC.  Contributors Unlucky Eddie and Kernowram came up with the goods! the full lyrics are presented here, with a snippet from the track itself. Just click on the player.

Wooly Bully

uno, dos, one, two, tres quatro!
Wooly Bully!

Oh, I went to watch Derby, play the Mighty Finns
We were on course, for a record win

Wooly Bully, Wooly Bully
Wooly Bully, Wooly Bully, Wooly Bully

Ah, the man next to me, had to take a slash
a few minutes later, back to my side he dashed

Wooly Bully, Wooly Bully
Wooly Bully, Wooly Bully, Wooly Bully

uno, dos, one, two, tres quatro!
Wooly Bully!

Well the guy said to me, “mate, what’ve I missed?”
I said “we knocked 7 more in, while you were having a piss!”
He said “Oh no! ” (Too bad – shoulda brought a bottle)

On a Sat’dee in the 70’s, down at the Baseball Ground
the Leeds and Derby faithful, outside the ground were found

Wooly Bully, Wooly Bully
Wooly Bully, Wooly Bully, Wooly Bully

Well a Copper on horseback, let his nag drop a load
And the Derby faithful, scraped it off the road

Wooly Bully, Wooly Bully
Wooly Bully, Wooly Bully, Wooly Bully

uno, dos, one, two, tres quatro!
Wooly Bully!

Lobbing brown projectiles, with all our might
we covered the Leeds fans in a shower of shite

(Well, if the crap fits…)
(..is that why they call them The Dirties?)

Wooly Bully, Wooly Bully, Wooly Bully

(you won’t see THAT in the Damned United!)

Wooly Bully, Wooly Bully, Wooly Bully

uno, dos, one, two, tres quatro!
Wooly Bully!

  3. ha! quality…tho i’m sure it was late 80s, i reckon a bit of poetic liscence does no harm at all.
    cheers

  4. 🙂 Mate, I make most of it up as I go along! I missed a lot of the 80’s away touring and stuff, so i suppose that’s why I stuck 70’s on it, but as you say – poetic licence – the artist is always right!
