After catching German axemeister Michael Schenker live during our trip to Dublin,Miki and I decided to do another collaborative work based on him. I’ve followed his career for many years, starting with the UFO album “Force It” when I became instantly hooked on the melodic rock tones issuing from his trademark Flying ‘V’. As with my artwork of Phil Lynott, I once more continued on with the rough version I presented Miki with and created another stand alone piece myself. So here they both are for your delight! As you can see we’ve once again opted for different backgrounds: Our collaborative one recalls the venue where we saw him and his backdrop, and mine is a surreal nod to his time with the legendary German band The Scorpions..

Sometimes, I do really daft stuff. This is one of those times. A few years back I threw together a few eggs, and made an omelette of a video of ineggscrable puns, all to the tune of Irving Berlin’s ‘Easter parade’ on Electric guitar. Seemed like a good idea at the time! So, here it is again!
Here’s the third in my Metalhedz series of artworks. This guy’s known as ‘Spex’. He doesn’t really need Spex, but he thought they’d look cool. Unfortunately, an unscrupulous opthamologist sold him a pair fashioned out of some second-hand frosted bathroom glass, so he can’t see a thing with them, but he’ll never take them off. Spex is often found hanging around stage doors waiting for metal stars, who’ve actually already left – he just didn’t notice them…..

Here’s the second in my new art series ‘Metalhedz’. This is Wheezer. He got his name on account of the fact that he finds it difficult to breathe. That’s not a microphone he’s holding, it’s an inhaler. No, he’s not got asthma or anything. He sold one of his lungs so he could afford to go to an Iron Maiden concert. That’s dedication for you. Don’t try this at home, headbangers. You should let a qualified surgeon deal with your organ-trafficking needs.

Because I’m not content having every second of my day filled up with writing, recording, broadcasting and gigging, I’ve decided to start a new art series.
Called ‘METALHEDZ’, I’m launching it today with No. 1 – ‘Zero’. This particular dude is so-called not because he has a low opinion of himself, but because others do, and he’s not afraid to embrace his shortcomings. Oh, and he rocks out. a lot.
The Castle in the background may or may not have belonged to the late great Ronnie James Dio, we just don’t know.
The series will be characterized by, amongst other things, the fact that they are in any colour you like as long as it’s graduations of red, black, and white. Don’t argue, it’s just the way it’s got to be. We don’t want any poofy pastels around here. this is Metal, for Chrissakes!!!

Our popular local magazine, The Sentinella, where my Kid Monsta cartoon strip appears monthly, was kind enough to give me the Front page for their July issue – and of course, The Kid was featured, sunbathing on Mojacar Playa! Pete and Jo, who run the magazine single-handedly (well, double-handedly) do a great job collating news and views from around the region, and putting it all out in the ‘little mag that fits in your bag’. Check out the online edition RIGHT HERE.
This month, I went a bit ‘topical’ with the comic strip, as you can see below:
Today, with not a little fear and trepidation, I presented for the very first time and exhibition of my artworks at El Retiro gallery, hosted by Curtis Helm in our village here in Turre.
I was really pleased with the turn out
I can stand in front of 1,000’s of people and sing, it’s my job, and I’m confident in my abilities, but my artwork is something I’ve kept much more to myself over the years, gradually allowing Miki to coax it out of its shell.
"But why is the squirrel blue?" - an Artist explains
I was overjoyed then, to find it so well-received by the local community, selling one piece and a couple of my Blue Odyssey CD’s into the bargain! It was fun to see the public so engaged in the art, drawing comparisons with their own lives, kids, or experiences, or just enjoying the humour that I hope pervade the majority of them.
"Your name's not down mate, you're not coming in" - Full House
Certainly, for me, the interest, and of course the sale, gives me the necessary impetus to continue, and perhaps even exhibit again this year. So I can now order that bumper sticker that proudly exclaims; “My other job is ‘Artist’!”
The picture says it all.......

I’m not usually one for Political satire, but in this case, I made an exception. Recently , the Spanish government decided to reduce the speed limit on motorways from 120 kph to 110 kph. Apparently , it’s a temporary measure, for three months, to ‘save oil supplies’. They’ve had to change around 6,000 motorway signs at god knows what cost in materials and man-hours, and, given that most Spanish didn’t bother observing the 120kph speed limit in the first place, and the obvious cost of changing everything back again three months down the line, I don’t think it’s unreasonable to assume it’s a bit of a daft idea. But then, Spain’s no stranger to daft ideas – expanding Almeria airport for example, then making the landing fees so expensive hardly any planes fly there anymore, but hey ho – it all makes for good subject matter as far as my art is concerned!
Today, I take my first tentative steps into the world of Exhibited Art. I’m not too nervous though, as I will be surrounded by people I know and love, Miki (of course!) , Pamela Allegretto, and Emmanuel Baliyanga. All four of us are showing a piece depicting the theme of love, at a special Valentine’s exhibition today, Friday 11th February at El Retiro art gallery in Turre. Mine is of my guitarist “Valentine Duval” – who , naturally, plays a heart-shaped guitar! Next month, I take some giant steps, hosting an exhibition of around 25 of my art pieces in the same gallery! GULP!

Almost certainly lurking in my subconscious since my days wandering around the Caribbean with my reggae show, here’s a character I’ve called “Spank de Plank” – a very cool bass dude! He’ll be the last character to earn a place in my forthcoming exhibition in Turre in March, though I’m sure many more will pop out of my head and onto the screen during the coming year!

(Born: 20th May,1958, Chesterfield, England) is a Bass Player and Lead Vocalist. Formerly with Tubeless Hearts, he played with English Pop band Christie from 1990 to 2003, and featured in Graham Oliver’s Saxon on two European tours, before other commitments resulted in John Ward taking over vocal duties for the resulting Oliver/Dawson Saxon CD releases. Nevertheless, he appeared on Graham Oliver’s solo album End of an Era returning the favour after Oliver had appeared on Tubeless Hearts Three CD. READ MORE….
