Nearly there!

(((Singing to the tune of 10 green bottles)))) ..there were 2 bass guitars, hanging on the wall...
Completion, like Christmas, looms large on the horizon. (So does my solo show on New Year’s Eve, but I’m trying not to think about that!) Today I fired up the power amp and tested the speakers, which are now proudly hanging, dungeon-like, from chains attached to the ceiling. Asyou can see from the photo, two of my guitars now hang proudly from the walls. Two more to put up on the other side of the studio. The entire worktop area is installed with end sections, and the pull-out drawer for the keyboard workstation also. My biggest enemy now is impatience – wanting to just have the thing finished so I can start creating in it. But, all being well, as we enter the rarified atmosphere that is January 2009, I’ll be engaged in a compositional frenzy in my newly finished studio!

Let’s get laid
I wonder, does one still “lay” a carpet when it is being affixed to a wall, as opposed to the floor? Probably not. I would even go so far as to suggest a word – “attack”. It certainly felt like a battle when I, with the help of the redoubtable – but undeniably smaller than me – Miki attempted to wrestle my powder blue beauty into place.
But in place it eventually went, crowned with a nice new wall light, and one side of the studio is beginning to look something like. Three more walls to go. Has anybody got any Valium?

She’s not the only Painter round here, you know….
So, after recovering yesterday from my jetting over to the UK for a show, and driving up to Albir to fetch a load of stuff from the other house, i finally summoned the energy to return to my studio project. Today, I decided to try my hand at painting. Nothing as adventurous as Miki of course, just a great swathe of black across my finished outer wall. And though i do say so myself, it looks quite fetching!
My trip to Albir also took in an extensive search for the exact colour blue carpet that I needed for the studio. I eventually found it in a giant shopping mall just off the motorway on the way back down here. So that’s my next task – carpet fitting. Is there no beginning end to this man’s talents?
On a more creative note: Following the show with BC Sweet this weekend, I’ve received the germ of a song idea from our guitarist Mike, and we’re going to compose it together over the internet. I swear the world’s getting smaller.

Whistle while you work
So there I am, slaving away, minding my own business, and I’ve got Miki sneaking up behind me, taking photos. The irony here is, the poster on the wall, which has been there for ages, directly relates to the re-emergence of Christie as a touring band. Which is why I guess she imagined I was already running through the songs in my head while hammering away……
So, the walls are now virtually complete, and today I put part of the ceiling up. Perhaps I can see the light at the end of the tunnel….oh, no…it’s just a migraine.
