Motorway Madness

I’m not usually one for Political satire, but in this case, I made an exception. Recently , the Spanish government decided to reduce the speed limit on motorways from 120 kph to 110 kph. Apparently , it’s a temporary measure, for three months, to ‘save oil supplies’. They’ve had to change around 6,000 motorway signs at god knows what cost in materials and man-hours, and, given that most Spanish didn’t bother observing the 120kph speed limit in the first place, and the obvious cost of changing everything back again three months down the line, I don’t think it’s unreasonable to assume it’s a bit of a daft idea. But then, Spain’s no stranger to daft ideas – expanding Almeria airport for example, then making the landing fees so expensive hardly any planes fly there anymore, but hey ho – it all makes for good subject matter as far as my art is concerned!

  1. Hi Kev,
just seen this post on the illogical things that happen here in Spain and I fully agree.Wasted money on road signs for 3 months and no common sense with Almeria airport.Lovely airport now but where are the flights. Not many at all, especially winter time. Also seen the good post about fathers and sons and the tribute to your mate Jim Percy. He sounds like a great guy.I was doing a google search on The Pink House and I clicked on a link that took me to a post by Miki last year.Very interesting with piccys of the place.I had only been there for the first time about a week ago and it’s like an old hippy commune inside and out.Very interesting place to browse around.I expect you may have heard of the passing of Pinetop Perkins at the age of 97 in Austin ,Texas yesterday.I heard about it on a blues music site this morning.Been looking at you tube clips of him with The Muddy Waters Blues Band, and the tributes on Austin TV.I remember seeing the cartoon you did of the great man.Another blues legend playing up there in heaven now with all his pals.

  2. Check my latest entry Tony – I’ve honoured Pinetop – I was deeply saddened by his death. There’s a lot of his inspiration in my album.
